Terms and Conditions

  1. Nomadcanguru, lda holds the brand OceanCamper® that rents campervans, tents, camping, sport and leisure equipment with Tax Identification Number PT514806451, forward also named as “We” or “Us”.
  2. The person(s) who rents a car or equipment is forward named as “You” or “Customer”.
  1. A reservation is complete after you paid us 30% of the total billing amount through our webpage.
  2. The following cancellation policies apply:
    • Cancellation 15 or more days before the check-in: 100% refund of the paid amount;
    • Cancellation from 14 days to 5 days before check-in: 50% refund of the paid amount;
    • Cancellation less than 5 days before the check-in: 0% refund of the paid amount;

You can change your reservation period, but this depends on availability and can cause price changes.

You must provide at the check-in:

  1. Driving license valid in Europe (applicable only for vehicles).
  2. Passport or an ID valid in Europe.
  3. A credit card in the name of the driver with the necessary cover for the security deposit. You don´t have a credit card? Please contact us and we will find a solution for you. Please consider the following deposits:
    • Max. 2000€ for car rentals;
    • 200€ security deposit for a fuel tank for car rentals;
    • Max. 200€ for rentals of tent and camping equipment.

The security deposit can be blocked from your credit card (e.g. VISA) during the check-in or you can transfer to our bank account 3 days before your check-in. Make sure your credit card has the necessary cover.

It is not possible to start your tour without providing a security deposit.

You can choose an additional insurance option to decrease your security deposit.

The security deposit will be refunded within 5 working days after the check-out. This timeframe may be extended up to 1 month in cases of additional events, such as damage to the vehicle, delays in the issuance of the Via Verde report, or any legal complaints related to the rental car.

Why a security deposit? The security deposit is necessary to cover eventual costs of damages to the vehicle and equipment, lost items, not refilled diesel deposit or any costs you may cause. After confirming there are no open costs, the security deposit will be refunded to you. This may take up to 14 days after the rental period ends.

We provide the following vehicle Insurances options:

Basic:  Deductible: € 1,500 for a small camper or 2,000€ for a big camper. One driver allowed, mileage included 200 km per night.

Extra insurance packages:

Advanced (limited risk package) *: Deductible: € 400 for a small camper or 500€ for a big camper. Two drivers allowed, mileage included 300 km per night, and includes tyre and windscreen protection.

Complete (all-included package) *: € 200 deductible for consumables (fuel deposit, etc), two drivers allowed, mileage included 400 km per night, windscreen and tyre damages are covered, zero excess.

Young driver: This insurance is mandatory for drivers who have held their license for less than three years. However, to book with us, you must have held your driving license for at least one year at the time of check-in.

* None of our insurance options cover the following damage and / or loss:

  • Personal items, car equipment, or damage to the interior (e.g. seats, interior walls, radio, etc.);
  • Damage caused by vandalism or theft from the vehicle;
  • Fines (parking, etc.) or damage caused by improper or negligent use or incorrect fuel;
  • Damages caused by someone else to the rental vehicle without complete documentation of the accident. If you are innocently involved in an accident, the other party involved in the accident pays the damage to the rental vehicle. But: It is your duty to identify the other party and those involved in the accident (vehicle registration number, names and contact details) and to document the course of the accident (report, photos, etc., if necessary, police protocol). Otherwise, you alone will bear all the damage.
  1. You must return all rented equipment/car during the check-out at the agreed time and place.
  2. In case of a check-out outside of business hours, you must park the vehicle at an agreed parking lot and you remain responsible for any damage and parking costs, fees/fines that can occur until we collect the vehicle the next day.
  3. Please, take adequate time to travel back to the check-out location and consider unforeseen events (e.g. heavy traffic, accidents, flat tire, etc.). We do not reimburse costs for missed flights or any connected costs.
  4. In case you do not deliver the equipment at the agreed time and place, we can charge the following fees:
    • You delay up to 30 minutes: free of charge;
    • You delay more than 30 minutes: a late return fee of 30€ per started hour applies

Note that informing us about any problem or delay is important to keep our time schedule in place and maintain our service to the highest possible standard, which makes it, in turn, convenient for you.
  1. We maintain the equipment/vehicle to the best of our knowledge and at least the manufacturer’s recommended standard. If something is broken or doesn’t work well, we will fix or replace it by an equivalent one. In case no substitution equipment/vehicle is available, we will reimburse your payment from the day on when it stopped working.
  2. You must give notice of any defects not spotted by us during the check-in. If you did not notify us during the check-in, it is considered that you received the equipment/vehicle in perfect working order.
  3. You shall return the equipment in a clean and similar condition as you have received it. Normal tear and wear will be accepted. Note that all the equipment, including surfboards and wetsuits, should be washed and sand-free when delivered.
  4. You must not let anyone modify or fix the vehicle/equipment without our written permission (e.g., email, phone message).
  5. You are liable for any damage and cost that come from:
    • Misuse (e.g., filling wrong fuel into vehicle, damages on surfboard, use the pan in the BBQ, etc.)
    • Reparations, in case of damage in the equipment or vehicle (outside and inside). Vehicle damages also include glass breakage, flat tires, liquid damages such as water/wine in wooden surfaces, mattresses, and pillows, or extremely dirty interiors of the vehicle.
  1. The vehicle can only be driven by the driver(s) named in the Rental Agreement.
  2. The driver must have held a driving license for at least three years, have no endorsements or convictions on their driving license. In case the driver holds a license for less than three years: the extra insurance package “Advanced” must be booked.
  3. The driver must only use the vehicle for camping and holiday purposes, and must not:
    • Sub-rent the vehicle the third party.
    • Use the vehicle for racing, off-road, speeding, testing the reliability of the vehicle or teach driving.
    • Drive the vehicle outside of Portugal unless stated in the Rental Agreement.

You may be charged for the following expenses:

  • The rental charge: daily rent and any applicable supplement, and any other optional charges agreed on the Rental Agreement.
  • Highway tolls: If you used paid highways, you will need to pay 15€/booking (ativation fee) plus the toll fees that you drove during your rental time.
  • Not a full fuel tank at your vehicle will be charged with 30€ plus fuel costs. Make sure the tank is really full if you return the car to us.
  • Additional kilometres cost 0.25/kilometre that is above the daily kilometre limit defined in check-in form.
  • An extra cleaning fee of up to 50€ if the vehicle or equipment is unreasonable dirty at check-out, with the necessity to deep clean (e.g. seats, the interior roof, and walls).
  • All fines and connected costs coming, e.g., form wrong parking, traffic law violations or other law brakes. You must accept responsibility for paying the appropriate authority or company for any such charges and costs. We may where reasonably practicable, transfer all fines or charges and relevant information to you. In this case, we ask an administration charge of €30 to you to compensate efforts coming from dealing with these matters.
  • In case of accidents up to 1500-2000€ for repairing or replacing the vehicle if it is damaged or stolen (even if it is not your fault) plus a damage processing fee of 50€. You may not have to pay the whole costs if you have booked an additional collision damage waiver.
  • Parking fees that may arise when you have parked the vehicle at any paid parking lot such as at the airport carpark to catch a flight.
  1. We preserve the right to cancel the rental contract at any time if you misuse the rented equipment/vehicle.
    • Example 1: Police caught you driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  2. If we end the Agreement and we still preserve the right to keep your already paid amount and charge possible open costs (e.g. fines, tolls fees, etc)
  3. The Agreement is governed by the laws of Portugal and place of jurisdiction is Faro – Portugal. If any provision of this Agreement is or becomes invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall not be affected. February 2021
