Automatic gearbox

No clutch, no hill starts, no stalling

The Oasis is our most popular campervan with an automatic gearbox. Same van as the Indigo, same kit, same solar panel and 32L fridge. The only difference is that you are not working a clutch.

That matters more in Portugal than most people expect. The coast roads are easy, but the good roads inland are steep and narrow, and a hill start on a blind bend is nobody’s idea of a holiday.

If your licence is automatic-only, this is the only van in our fleet you can drive. The restriction applies across the EU, so a manual is not an option however confident you feel.

If you learned on an automatic, common if you are coming from the US or Canada, you do not need to relearn a clutch on holiday.

If it has been a while, or you are heading inland towards Monchique and the interior, it is €5 a night more than the manual Indigo.

The Bed & Storage Space

The bed is 1.9 x 1.4m with a real mattress, so it comfortably fits two people up to about 1.85m. Pillows, sheets and a cosy blanket are included. Underneath there is 1.2 x 0.4 x 0.6m of storage for luggage and camping gear, and a flexible lamp for reading.

On-Road Comfort & Safety

The Oasis has an automatic gearbox, cruise control and rear parking sensors, with a diesel engine using 5 to 7 litres per 100km. At 1.92m high it fits under the two metre barriers that keep larger motorhomes out of many coastal car parks, and it parks in an ordinary space. Roof rails take surfboards of any size. Airbags, a fire extinguisher, a first aid kit and a warning triangle are standard.

Off-Grid Living and Outdoor Convenience

A 170W solar panel and service battery keep the fridge and lighting running off-grid, and the 12/230V converter and two USB sockets charge your devices. There is a camping table, two chairs, towels, biodegradable toiletries, and an 80L water tank with an outdoor shower.

Prefer a manual? The Indigo is the same van with a clutch, €5 a night less. Need room for three? The Bohemian is the only van in our fleet that sleeps three. Want no gearbox at all? The eNomad is fully electric.
